RSL sets record against Fire

SANDY, Utah - Alvaro Saborio scored on a penalty kick in first-half added time, and Real Salt Lake beat the short-handed Chicago Fire 1-0 on Saturday to extend its regular-season home unbeaten streak to a Major League Soccer-record 23 games.

Defending champion Salt Lake, unbeaten at home since May 16, 2009, broke the record of 22 set by the Columbus Crew in 2008-09. Salt Lake is unbeaten in nine games overall.

The victory also vaulted RSL (13-4-8) into a tie with the Los Angeles Galaxy for the league lead with 47 points. The Galaxy played D.C. United on Saturday night.

The Fire (6-9-8) is winless in six games and has scored only twice in their last five.

Already without injured forward Brian McBride, the Fire played the second half a man down after defender Wilman Conde was ejected with his second yellow card. He pulled down RSL's Ned Grabavoy in the box in the 44th minute, denying a scoring opportunity.

Saborio then buried the penalty for his ninth goal of the season, all at home.
