Konerko stays in after getting hit in face
CHICAGO -- White Sox slugger Paul Konerko is staying in the game after getting hit in the face by a pitch from Minnesota's Carl Pavano in the first inning.
With two out and a runner on first, Pavano appeared to nail Konerko in the left cheek and nose with an 89-mph pitch Thursday night.
Konerko was tended to for several minutes by trainer Herm Schneider before trotting to first as fans chanted "Paulie! Paulie!" Manny Ramirez walked to load the bases before Carlos Quentin popped out to end the inning.
Chicago's Mark Buehrle then drilled Michael Cuddyer in the left shoulder with the first pitch of the second, drawing a warning from plate umpire Jerry Crawford.
