Hoffman mom arrested after toddler found alone in car in Elgin

A 43-year-old Hoffman Estates woman was arrested on misdemeanor charges of child endangerment Thursday after police say she left her 3-year-old son in a cold vehicle while she shopped in Elgin.

Aixin Li, 43, of the 1600 block of Burning Bush Lane, is alleged to have left the boy in the van at 2:10 p.m. Thursday and gone to shop at the Village Discount, 844 W. Summit St., according to Elgin police spokeswoman Sue Olafson.

Authorities arrived to the store parking lot at 2:55 p.m. upon a call from a concerned person and found the child in Li's locked 2005 Toyota Sierra van, Olafson said.

Police later released the child to his father, and the Department of Child and Family Services will follow up on the case, Olafson said.

Li posted a $150 bond.
