Arlington Hts. police looking for church bandits

Arlington Heights Police are searching for a person or persons who broke into an area church and stole donated money sometime overnight.

Sgt. Michael Shabez of the Arlington Heights Police Department said burglars entered St. James Church at 831 N. Arlington Heights Road and pried open two candle boxes inside, taking out donations inside.

He said its unclear how the burglars entered the church after hours, saying there was no forced entry on the church doors surrounding the facility.

He said the candle boxes are designed for people to leave donations after lighting a candle during a prayer.

It's unknown how much money was taken from the two candle boxes he said.

“It was discovered by the first person at the church at about 6 a.m.,” he said. “At this point, we have no suspects.”

He said the burglary remains under investigation.
