Baby boy died of SIDS; Cook sheriff's police close investigation
A 3-month-old baby boy who died Thursday after being found unresponsive in his Des Plaines area home was the victim of sudden infant death syndrome, a spokeswoman for the Cook County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
Liane Jackson, spokeswoman for the sheriff's department, said the department was no longer investigating after an autopsy determined cause of the boy's death. She had said earlier there were no obvious signs of trauma on the infant.
Police and firefighters were called to the 10100 block of Holly Lane in Maine Township about 1:55 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report the boy was not breathing. He later was pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
According to the sheriff's department, the boy's father found him unresponsive on a mattress, about 15 minutes after he put the child down for a nap.
Sheriff's officers interviewed the father as well as the boy's the mother, who had been at work when the death occurred.
