Leguizamo warms up for Broadway in the Windy City
Actor/playwright John Leguizamo is set to heat up the Windy City when he performs a two-week engagement of “John Leguizamo Warms Up” at the Royal George Theatre in Chicago from Feb. 1-12.
Best known for starring in films such as “Moulin Rouge!” and “Romeo + Juliet,” Leguizamo is returning to his theatrical roots with the Chicago show, which is essentially a pre-Broadway tryout for Leguizamo's upcoming one-man play carrying a different name.
Leguizamo's “Ghetto Klown” is set to play at New York's Lyceum Theatre starting Feb. 21 with direction by actor and Academy Award-winning documentary producer Fisher Stevens (“The Cove”). Leguizamo's other critically acclaimed Broadway one-man shows include “Freak” (1998) and “Sexaholix” (2001, 2003). Leguizamo's most recent Broadway appearance was in a 2008 flop revival of David Mamet's “American Buffalo” directed by Robert Falls of the Goodman Theatre.
Tickets for “John Leguizamo Warms Up” are $40-$45 and go on sale today (Thursday, Dec. 30) at noon. Call (312) 988-8000 or visit ticketmaster.com for more information.
