Stop yields three arrests for armed robbery
Three Chicago men were arrested in Elmhurst Thursday afternoon after police spotted their vehicle, which was reported to have be involved in a Palatine armed robbery, going east on I-290, according to authorities.
A 911 caller alerted Palatine police of an armed robbery just before 2 p.m. Thursday but refused to cooperate with police once the three suspects were arrested, police said.
The vehicle stopped on I-290 contained a stolen handgun and suspected cannabis inside, according to the Elmhurst Police Department.
Cornelius Wright, 26, of Chicago was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm and ammunition without a firearm owner's identification card and possession of cannabis, according to police.
The vehicle was stopped near 17th Avenue about 2:20 p.m. by an Elmhurst officer with the assistance of several neighboring agencies.
Two other Chicago men were charged with possession of cannabis during the stop.
Wright is being held at the DuPage County jail awaiting a bond hearing.
