Scouting the Fire: The Fire (6-5-6, 24 points) is undefeated in August, or since Freddie Ljungberg and goalkeeper Sean Johnson joined the lineup. Both have added a spark to what was a foundering squad but now looks to be working its way toward a playoff spot.

Scouting Houston: The Dynamo (5-10-5, 20 points) has lost two straight and hasn't won in its last 10 games, a skid that's sent Houston tumbling toward the bottom of the Western Conference standings. Brad Davis leads the team in goals and assists, but a quad strain could make him a spectator.
