Look both ways at Fabyan Pkwy.

As an avid biker, I'm seriously concerned for the safety of both bicyclists and pedestrians who cross Fabyan Parkway at Route 31 in Batavia. Since spring time, I've come very close to being struck by a vehicle turning right on Fabyan by those driving north on Route 31. If I had not yelled out, I would have been struck two times, once while slowly riding and once while walking my bike.

An incident on Aug. 18 made me write this letter as a driver saw me, and yet still proceeded to attempt a right turn even though I was coming out in the pedestrian crossing. I had to yell at her, too.

To be fair to those drivers turning right there, many probably aren't even aware of the path from the Fox River Trail since it is well hidden. Regardless, that is not a valid excuse since drivers are required to look both ways before making a right turn.

Other than building an pedestrian overpass, I'm not sure what a safe solution would be. A bike/pedestrian crossing sign would be nice start, but I doubt in the sign's effectiveness given people tend not to look right while watching traffic from the left. Maybe a No Turn on Red sign is the safest solution?

Drivers, I would ask you if your great hurry in reaching your destination 10-30 seconds sooner by rushing through this intersection is worth putting someone in the hospital or taking someone's life? Please carefully consider safety at this intersection.
