Elmhurst Unit District 205 names State Those Who Excel honorees

Elmhurst Community Unit School District 205 recently announced its state-level Those Who Excel honorees for the 2020-21 school year.

Since 1970, the Illinois State Board of Education has sponsored the Those Who Excel program to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to our state's public and nonpublic elementary and secondary schools.

Awards of Excellence

• Award of Excellence Community Volunteer: Kristi Amendola, Foundation 205 executive director; nominated by Dr. David Moyer.

• Award of Excellence Student Support Personnel: Susan Mooshool, student support personnel at Bryan Middle School; nominated by Michelle Bowles.

• Award of Excellence, Early Career Educator: Abby Udelhofen, teacher at Hawthorne/Jackson Elementary Schools; nominated by Michelle Thompson.

Meritorious Service

• Meritorious Service Team: Elmhurst Unit District 205 technology department, District 205 Administration Center; nominated by Dr. David Moyer.

• Meritorious Service Classroom Teacher: Susan Stephenson, teacher at Sandburg Middle School; nominated by Liz Napper.

• Meritorious Service Administrator: Christine Trendel, principal of Jackson Elementary School; nominated by Dr. David Moyer.

The recipients will be honored during the Nov. 17 board of education meeting, where they will be thanked for their service and for representing District 205 in the Those Who Excel recognition program. Awardees are among 1,167 total awardees from 152 school districts in 38 counties honored in this year's announcement.
