Chicago nursing home faces loss of license
Illinois regulators are acting to revoke the license of a Chicago nursing home that houses about 130 mentally ill residents.
Columbus Manor Residential Care Home has been cited for numerous violations involving residents' safety. State inspectors describe residents attacking each other and a 67-year-old female resident fighting off a sexual assault by a male resident.
Inspectors say the for-profit facility failed to tell a 61-year-old resident's doctor he was ill, possibly contributing to his death from an infection.
Columbus Manor has submitted a plan to correct the problems. Administrator and co-owner Patrick O'Brien told The Associated Press he has no comment.
A hearing has been set for Dec. 6 in Chicago. The facility faces fines of at least $100,000.
