Sox option Carlos Torres to AAA Charlotte to make room for Manny

CLEVELAND - Prior to tonight's game at Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox optioned right-handed pitcher Carlos Torres to Class AAA Charlotte. The move creates room on the White Sox 25-man roster for Manny Ramirez, who yesterday was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Torres, 27, is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA (7 ER/9.1 IP) in two games (one start) over two stints with the White Sox in 2010. He also has gone 9-9 with a 3.52 ERA (60 ER/153.1 IP), 138 strikeouts and a .221 (122-552) opponents average in 26 games (24 starts) with Charlotte this season.

Ramirez will wear uniform No. 99 for the White Sox.
