'Good shape' quote misinterpreted
It has come to my attention that some are misinterpreting my statement in a July 27 article in the Daily Herald in which I asserted that "DuPage County came out in good shape" following the heavy rainfalls of July 23 and 24. Unfortunately, some are taking that to mean I believed no flooding damage was done within DuPage at all, which is obviously not the case.
In reality, my comment referred to the county's stormwater facilities, which prevented the overflow of reservoirs and the flooding of riverbanks. It was made to assure residents that these runoff facilities operated as they should have; properly and efficiently.
Much of my tenure as chairman has been spent working to ensure that county flood control management protects the homes and businesses throughout DuPage, as they did earlier this month.
