Man badly hurt when hit Ind. police car

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Fort Wayne police say a pedestrian was badly hurt when he was struck by a squad car on a dark street.

The police department said 34-year-old Rodney Haynes was hospitalized in critical condition after he was hit about 2 a.m. Friday on a main street of the city's south side. The police officer wasn't injured and was responding to a non-emergency run without the car's emergency lights and siren activated.

Spokesman Officer Roy Sutphin says it appears that Haynes was in the street when he was hit.
