Police: Naperville woman left kids home alone to shop
A Naperville mother is charged with misdemeanor child neglect after police said she admitted leaving her two young children home alone while shopping.
Nafissa K. Hediding, 32, faces up to one year in jail if convicted.
Police stopped Hediding's 2001 Audi A6 at 9:12 a.m. July 29 while south on Fort Hill Drive after an officer on routine patrol noticed the motorist's registration sticker expired in January 2008.
Hediding admitted during the traffic stop that she left her son and daughter home alone for at least 30 minutes that morning while shopping at Target, located 1.4 miles from her Versailles Avenue apartment on the city's far west side, according to DuPage County court records.
She was ticketed for expired registration, driving without a valid license, no proof of insurance and contributing to the neglect of a child. Authorities contacted state child welfare officials to investigate further.
The children, both minors, were not injured. Their exact ages were not available Thursday. Hediding has not appeared in DuPage County court yet.
