Fielders suffer shutout loss
Ryan Bicondoa pitched his fifth complete game of the season for Lake County, but he received no run support as the Joliet JackHammers defeated the Fielders 3-0 on Tuesday night in Zion.
Bicondoa (2-8) gave up 3 runs (2 earned) on 8 hits with no walks and a season-high 9 strikeouts.
The JackHammers scored twice in the fourth inning. After Bicondoa faced the minimum number of batters through the first three innings, Jonathan Wyatt had a leadoff single. Josh Flores then reached on an error by Bicondoa. Flores bunted the ball back to the mound. Bicondoa threw wide to second base, and both runners were safe.
The red-hot Brad Correll came through with a bloop single to shallow right field, scoring Wyatt. The next hitter, Jon Nelson, drove a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Flores to make it 2-0.
That would be all Todd Privett (8-4) needed as he threw 7 shutout innings, allowing only 2 hits and striking out seven.
The Fielders had a couple of base runners in scoring position late as Brian McFall doubled in the seventh and Guillermo Martinez tripled in the eighth, but the Fielders could not come through with a clutch hit.
The Fielders will go for the series split tonight.
