Northwestern basketball grabs opening win in Italy
Two former Daily Herald area basketball stars led Northwestern to a win Monday on its tour in Italy.
Junior forward John Shurna (Glenbard West) scored a team-high 17 points and sophomore guard/forward Drew Crawford (Naperville Central) added 14 of his 16 points in the first half as the NU men's basketball team won the opening game of its tour in Italy 67-61 over AB Latina in Latina, Italy.
The Wildcats trailed 7-3 early on, but led the remainder of the contest and by as many as 13.
Alex Marcotullio chipped in with 11 points, while Crawford had a team-leading 7 rebounds.
The Wildcats' next game is scheduled for 11 a.m. CST Wednesday when they take on Liomatic Perugia in Perugia, Italy.
