Clerk at Naperville rental management company indicted

A part-time employee of a Naperville company that manages rental properties is accused of stealing more than $100,000.

Erica Salgado, 23, of 2706 Adobe Drive, Plainfield, is charged with theft and financial identity theft. She faces probation or up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

A DuPage County grand jury indicted her this week, according to court records released Wednesday. Salgado is free on $10,000 bail, pending an Aug. 17 arraignment before DuPage Circuit Judge Blanche Hill Fawell.

Salgado pocketed the money by cashing several business checks from April 14, 2009, until May 23 while employed at Rental Homes Inc. of Naperville. She also wrote her manager's name on many of the checks as part of the scheme, according to the indictment.

Police said Salgado's boss asked them to investigate May 24 after the company's bank notified management of overdrafts. An arrest warrant was issued July 22.
