Elgin man guilty of assaulting disabled woman
A previously convicted sex offender was ordered back to prison Friday for sexually assaulting a mentally disabled woman in Elgin.
Johnny L. Reed, 44, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, in exchange for a 30-year prison term, according to Kane County court records.
Police said Reed sexually assaulted a 49-year-old acquaintance who was mentally disabled and had the understanding of a 6- or 7-year-old.
The allegations surfaced in December after Reed, formerly of Bartlett, was arrested on charges of failing to register as a sex offender after moving to Elgin. At the time, police said he was recently paroled from an 11-year prison term.
The Illinois sex offender registry lists Reed as a predator convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in Jefferson County when he was 31.
Reed has been in the Kane County jail on $155,000 bail since his arrest. He was given credit for 228 days served.
