It's true; Millar is trying to save money

I read with interest the eclectic thoughts of Mr. Vince Hunn's recent editorial contention.

Mr. Hunn accurately portrays Mr. Millar as wanting to save the district money. He did vote against excessively generous employee raises.

Mr. Hunn may blush with discomfiture when he reads President Gerald Chapman chaired the May 14, 2008 board meeting and 7-0 vote to hire Dr. Lukich. Mr. Hunn might be mortified over his editorial taunts once forced to acknowledge Dr. Chapman's signature affixes Dr. Lukich's employment contract. Facts can tell.

Explanation of these facts or a public apology to Mr. Millar will best serve Mr. Hunn rehabilitate a reputation for factual incautiousness.

If Mr. Hunn wishes to poke Mr. Millar for his past vote to hire Dr. Lukich, he should skewer Dr. Chapman for the board's disappointing actions concerning his departure. Far more egregious than the 7-0 vote to hire Dr. Lukich was the 7-0 vote thwarting public understanding as to why we have to pay him so much to leave.

Mr. Hunn fumes about Mr. Millar's opposition to the 2005 tax increase, hardly ruinous given the majority of voters opposed it as well. Mr. Hunn attributes great prowess to Mr. Millar, exclaiming he "worked very hard so it wouldn't pass." The February 2005 tax increase vote failed not because Mr. Millar was elected later that April, rather Mr. Millar was elected in April 2005 in part because he did not support raising taxes.

Mr. Hunn is correct President Chapman is "working to get it back" if he is referring to raising district tax obligations. Board President Gerald Chapman led the ill-conceived attempt to borrow $27,000,000 with bonds financed and guaranteed by district taxpayers, a measure opposed by Mr. Millar.
