Naperville man turned in by mother-in-law admits having child porn
A Naperville man whose mother-in-law turned him in for child pornography admitted his guilt Tuesday.
Aaron A. Thomas faces up to five years in prison for storing illicit images in his computer of children engaged in sex acts. He also is eligible for probation.
Detectives with Naperville police's computer crimes unit began their investigation in November 2007 after learning Thomas' mother-in-law called police in Texas to report she found images of child pornography in an e-mail account that he had left on her computer while updating various programs for her during a recent visit.
Police later searched Thomas' former home in Naperville and seized several computers and other electronic media as part of their investigation. Months later, a forensic examination of the electronics turned up numerous images and movies of child pornography, Assistant State's Attorney Diane Michalak said.
Thomas, 33, was arrested in May on possession of child pornography charges. He pleaded guilty Tuesday. DuPage Circuit Judge Blanche Hill Fawell set sentencing for Oct. 27.
