Elgin man indicted on child sex charges
An Elgin man is facing charges he sexually abused two young girls over a period of years dating back to 2003.
Jose Mendez, 52, of the 1900 block of Stanford Court, was indicted by a Kane County grand jury this week on four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, one count of criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to court records.
Prosecutors said Mendez continually abused two girls younger than 16. The allegations, involving children Mendez knew, date back to Aug. 16, 2003, according to the charging documents.
As of Friday afternoon, there was a warrant out for Mendez's arrest but he hadn't been taken into custody. The most serious charge against him, a Class X felony, is punishable by up to 30 years in prison.
