Boeger Apartments deserves 2nd chance

The urgent need for supportive housing for our beloved family members with mental illness has been apparent for many years. The Boeger Place apartments project in Arlington Heights would fulfill a long-standing neglect of the mentally ill segment of our Northwest suburban neighbors, for at least 30 residents.

We appreciate your article "Another try for housing program" (Aug. 6) which lets our community know again the essential need for this specialized housing. It would be a place that 30 Northwest suburban people could call "home", and be away from inappropriate living conditions - homelessness, nursing homes, etc.

The only change in your article is that the Boeger place apartments are not across the street from Buffalo Grove High School, but a healthy walk away.

The long-range Arlington Heights plan includes housing for the mentally ill and our proposed Boeger Place apartments would meet that goal. Assisted living apartments throughout our village are currently smaller than the proposed Boeger Place apartments, so that point is hardly debatable.

We are looking forward to a successful approval and completion of the project to know that our mentally ill loved ones have proper and affordable homes.
