Elgin Dunkin' Donuts robbers plead guilty
Two men have been sent to prison for robbing a Dunkin' Donuts in Elgin last year.
Raul Delgado Jr., 20, of Elgin, and Alejandro Rodriguez, 18, of Hampshire, each pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of robbery, a Class 2 felony, according to Kane County court records. In exchange, Delgado and Rodriguez were sentenced to three years and seven years in prison, respectively.
The pair was among three men arrested last fall in connection with two holdups on Aug. 2, 2009, and Oct. 5, 2009, at Dunkin' Donuts, 95 Clock Tower Plaza.
In the earlier robbery, authorities said, Delgado, Rodriguez and co-defendant Timothy M. Stacey of Gilberts were disguised in masks and dark clothes when they entered the business carrying baseball bats and stole $400 from a clerk.
Ironically, Dunkin' Donuts later hired Stacey to replace the clerk he had robbed, according to police.
Then in October, Delgado and Rodriguez returned while Stacey was on duty and acted out a second robbery in which the three men stole $2,000, authorities said.
Stacey, 18, of the 200 block of Evergreen Lane, remains charged with armed robbery, theft, and filing a false police report. His next court appearance is set for Aug. 27 in front of Kane County Judge Allen M. Anderson.
