Blagojevich auction pushed back
While the jury's still out in Rod Blagojevich's trial, the wait also continues for the unveiling of the ex-governor's life-size Elvis statue, just one of the seven crates' worth of personal items about to be auctioned off.
Originally set for this Saturday, the event will now start at 11 a.m. Thursday at Boyer-Rosene Moving & Storage in Arlington Heights.
CFO Joe Saverino said the rescheduling was prompted by several radio stations and other media outlets who requested it take place lunchtime midweek.
"We were getting inundated with calls to switch it. It's kind of turned into a circus, but it's for a good cause," said Saverino, noting proceeds will benefit Children's Memorial Hospital.
Political action committee Friends of Blagojevich stored the crates in the Boyer-Rosene warehouse back in 2002 when Blagojevich was a state representative. Aside from the statue of his favorite performer, staff doesn't know what's in them except that canceled checks and bank statements are among the contents.
Before the actual auction gets underway at 1 p.m., there will be food, raffle items, activities for children and Elvis Presley impersonators galore.
