Blaze ravages home in North Barrington
A 4,900-square-foot home in a gated, affluent North Barrington neighborhood was rendered uninhabitable after an early morning fire Monday, officials said.
Bill Hoover, a lieutenant with the Wauconda Fire District, said no one was injured in the fire on the 0-100 block of Lakeside Lane that was reported at 6:44 a.m.
"When we arrived, the flames were through the roof," Hoover said. "The house is uninhabitable. They haven't come out with a damage estimate. It's going to be significant. It's a huge house. The second floor is destroyed."
Hoover said two adults were home when the fire broke out and ran to a neighbor's house to call for help.
Hoover said firefighters were still investigating the cause of the fire, but the origin was in the attic.
The fire was brought under control by about 7:30 a.m. but required overhaul until about 11 a.m.
The blaze occurred in the Wynstone subdivision, where it is common for luxury homes nestled around a golf course to sell for more than $2 million.
Hoover said about 70 firefighters from the following agencies assisted: Algonquin, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Countryside, Fox River Grove, Grayslake, Lake Villa, Lake Zurich, Lincolnshire, McHenry, Mundelein, Nunda, Palatine Rural, Round Lake and Woodstock.
"It was a very good stop by our people," Hoover said.
