Cars destroyed in Gurnee fire
A Gurnee resident suffered minor burns Saturday morning in a garage fire.
The Gurnee Fire Department received several calls around 10:30 a.m. reporting a garage fire outside a single-family home on the 100 block of Knob Hill Lane. When firefighters arrived, officials said they found the garage and a luxury car inside fully engulfed in flames.
The fire had also spread to another vehicle in the driveway, officials added.
While flames were extinguished in about 20 minutes, firefighters remained on the scene to investigate. Paramedics also treated a male resident of the home at the scene for minor burns, officials said, but did not take him to a hospital.
Fire officials said the burns were likely caused while the man was doing mechanical work on the car inside the garage, and the fire started in the car while he was doing repairs.
Officials said they suspect gasoline also accelerated the flames, but an investigation is ongoing.
Damage estimates were still unavailable Thursday night, officials said. But in addition to the damaged garage and cars, smoke and water also caused minor damage to the home, they said.
The Gurnee Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from departments in Grayslake and Newport.
