Repair project on Arlington Heights well goes to Aurora company

Repairs to Arlington Heights Well 13 at Nickol Knoll, 3702 N. Kennicott Ave., will be made by low bidder Layne-Western of Aurora for $217,159, which is $42,150 over budget due to an increase in the price of steel and other materials as well as labor.

The village maintains wells for emergency in case the Lake Michigan water supply is interrupted, said Dennis Bowe, superintendent of utilities.

The wells were drilled before the village got access to lake water in 1985, he said. Some are 70 years old, and Well 13 was drilled in 1971.
