Banana truck topples over
An 18-wheeler semitruck carrying bananas overturned shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday at routes 41 and 173 in Lake County after being struck by a Ford Mustang. Both drivers suffered minor injuries. No bananas were spilled in the crash.
The Mustang was traveling westbound on Route 173 and ran a red light, hitting the truck heading northbound on Route 41 in the rear, Lake County Sheriff Sgt. John Willer said. The semi stopped and overturned just north of the intersection. Southbound Route 41 lanes were blocked entirely, as was one of the northbound lanes. "It's going to be closed for two hours," Willer said. A tow truck attempted to right the fallen semi, but first the bananas are being unloaded, Willer said.
