The Community Crisis Center, located in Elgin, was founded in 1975 by a group of dedicated volunteers to help those in crisis due to domestic violence, sexual assault, or economic circumstances. They offer a 24-hour crisis hotline and information and referral; emergency shelter; individual and group counseling; medical, legal and welfare advocacy; emergency assistance with food, clothing, rent and utilities; and transitional housing.

The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin opened its doors to at-risk youth in 1993. Now operating out of the new Education & Enrichment Center on Dundee Avenue and three area middle schools, the club supports over 1,400 members with life-changing programs. The center, at 355 Dundee Ave., is open during the summer from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
