Wheeling's land-line tax a slap at seniors
It is absolutely unfair that old fashioned land-line users will be charged $1.50 in local 911 tax, while all other phone users will be charged $0.58. Comcast users, ATT Uverse, Skype, Cell, and all other wireless and Internet based phones are immune to touch by our village.
State law only allows the village to tax land-line users.
Trustee Bob Heer is correct. This is a tax on the senior citizens. It should come out of the general fund, as the 911 service is a benefit to all residents of the village, not just those that have old fashioned land-line phones.
Why should one group be taxed twice as much as others, when we all get the same level of service?
I guess that answer is, "Because they can." As you can see, I am against this idea. But most voters will go for it, because they do not have the phones that are getting taxed!
