Neuter those abandoned kittens
To the editor: In response to "What to do with abandoned kittens, July 19", I would just like to say that these are not "abandoned" kittens by any account. Mrs. Wright has a feral cat problem and the reason the mother disappears after she has finished nursing her kittens is that she is out looking for the boys again.
Of course the shelters are full. It is not possible to place unsocialized kittens for adoption. Unfortunately, no one gave Mrs. Wright the correct solution for her problem, and that is to TNR (trap, neuter, release) those kittens so they do not grow up to add to the population problem in her area.
What she needs to do is contact a rescue group rather than a shelter as these are the facilities that are more likely to be able to help her with trapping these kittens and even hopefully that wayward mom.
