Waukegan man killed in Hainesville crash

Officials are awaiting the results of blood tests to determine if a 48-year-old Waukegan man who swerved off the road and hit a tree late Friday night in Hainesville was impaired while driving, officials said.

Hayward Matthews was headed westbound on Route 120 when he swerved off the road and hit the tree at about 8:15 p.m. Friday, said Lake County Coroner Richard Keller.

Matthews was taken from the scene to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead, Keller said.

Keller said alcohol is suspected to have played a role in the crash, but he said he won't know for sure until after toxicology test results are returned Wednesday.

Additional information about the accident was unavailable Monday. Calls to Hainesville police were not returned Monday.
