Naperville man wants his American flag back
Joseph Wersching bleeds red, white and blue.
The Naperville resident spent four years in active duty with the Marines and another two years in the reserves. He still proudly flies an American flag in his front yard along with a POW/MIA flag and one from the Marine Corps.
On this past Independence Day, he says, he simply wanted to display a large American flag on his fence at Washington Street and Elmwood Drive - just as he has every July 4 for the past six years.
But to his dismay the flag, all 9 feet by 51/2 feet of it, mysteriously disappeared on the evening of July 3.
When he noticed it was missing in the morning, he drove around his neighborhood to see if anyone had discarded it. Having no luck, he quickly filed a police report.
It's been more than a week and police say they have no leads.
Now Wersching is making a public plea for help in recovering his star-spangled banner, asking anyone with information as to its whereabouts to call police at (630) 420-6666.
"All I know is that the kind of person who takes an American flag the night before the Fourth is a scumbag," he said.
