Gurnee child seat recycling:Gurnee police have announced they are teaming up with Midwest Exchange Inc. in the village to recycle old and unusable child safety seats. "Seats are commonly used beyond their service life or purchased secondhand without the owner knowing the history of the seat, such as if the seat was involved in a crash," said communications shift supervisor Wendy Mann. "Not only is using a damaged or expired seat a concern for safety, but this partnership is a way to make sure the seats are recycled and reused in an environmentally friendly way." Mann is the Gurnee police safety seat program coordinator. She said at least 13 seats were recycled since the program started in late June. Police install more than 400 child safety seats annually. The police department has 18 certified technicians. Officials said child seats should be used for a maximum of six years and that any damage could immediately render one unsafe.Antioch art for charity sale:The Antioch Fine Arts Foundation is holding an open house at the Antioch Fine Arts Gallery on Sunday from 1 to 3:30 p.m., with 20 percent of sales going to the Open Arms Mission food pantry.
