Naperville man dies after car plunged into Plainfield creek

A Naperville man who had been in critical condition for two weeks after his car plunged into a Plainfield creek has died.

Brian Graziano, 22, of Naperville was pronounced dead Sunday night at the Joliet Area Community Hospice, according to the Will County Coroner's office.

Graziano was driving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix that plunged into Lily Cache Creek on July 14. He was traveling east on Renwick Road when he lost control, went across a lane of traffic, hit a guardrail and tree before flipping into the creek, officials said the day after the accident.

The car was upside down in the creek, officials said, but witnesses who saw the crash jumped in an effort to rescue Graziano.

They were joined within minutes by rescuers from the Plainfield Fire Protection District and Plainfield Police Department. It took seven people to pull Graziano from the car.

He was taken to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet following the accident, but later moved to the hospice.
