St. Charles OKs closing Route 64 for movie scene
Drivers who find themselves stuck in St. Charles traffic next month won't be able to blame gawkers looking at a fender-bender.
Instead, movie spectators may be to blame.
The St. Charles City Council decided Tuesday to close Route 64, in the area around the bridge over the Fox River, to allow for the filming of a movie by a local production company.
That section of the city's Main Street will be closed sometime between Aug. 30 and Sept. 2. The company plans to film from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. and use only one of those dates. Multiple dates were requested to allow some flexibility if weather is an issue.
St. Charles-based Insomnia Productions, Ltd. is the company producing the film. The company was created by Nick Smith, a 2003 alumnus of St. Charles North High School, according to his MySpace profile. The profile also indicates Smith graduated from Columbia College in 2008.
The city council was not told Tuesday night what the film will be about, but it granted the request at the recommendation of the police department.
Smith's MySpace page hosts a trailer for a film he created called "Storm Life."
That film is described on the production company's website as an "educational teenage drunken driving video for high school teenagers."
The 26-minute film depicts the aftermath of an accident that killed three friends who were driving drunk after a high school graduation party and the impact on the friend who could've stopped it.
The city council said it expects to learn more about the new film before approving any additional permits.
