4 youths charged with burglarizing Batavia vehicles
Four Batavia teens face burglary and curfew charges in connection with vehicle break-ins overnight July 25 and 26 on the city's east side.
"They were keeping us busy," Batavia Police Deputy Chief James Dixon said Monday.
The first two boys were taken into custody Monday shortly after a Kane County Sheriff's deputy driving on South Van Buren Street at 3:30 a.m. noticed them running away at the sight of his squad car.
With the help of a police dog, the deputy tracked the boys to the rear of a residence and took them into custody for curfew violation, police said.
Officers also located a backpack containing a "substantial" amount of change and a car's cup holder, according to a Kane County report. Further investigation led to two other juvenile boys being taken into custody, police said.
Dixon said the foursome stole "anything that wasn't nailed down," including money and electronic devices.
Each of the suspects faces a single count of burglary, burglary to motor vehicle and curfew violation.
The four were taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center Monday afternoon. Bail will be set Tuesday at an 11 a.m. court hearing.
