Buffalo Grove family charged in pot bust

Three members of a Buffalo Grove family are charged with growing marijuana plants in their home, Lincolnshire police announced Friday.

James J. Miller, 52, his wife Cindy Miller, 50, and their son Trevor Miller, 17, of 800 block of Dunhill Drive, were arrested at their home Wednesday evening and charged with the unlawful production of cannabis sativa plants, Det. Adam Hyde said.

Hyde said police were alerted by a Lincolnshire man who reported his wallet was stolen from his car last week. Later, he discovered roughly $1,000 was taken from his checking account through the purchase of items on the Internet and in fraudulent downloads, Hyde added.

Police traced the fraudulent orders and downloads to the Miller home, Hyde said. Officials from Lincolnshire and Buffalo Grove Police, the U.S. Postal Service and the Lake County State's Attorney's Office obtained a search warrant for the house.

There, authorities found six marijuana plants growing outside the home and in the living room "next to the couch," Hyde said.

Police also recovered multiple personal identification documents from other victims in Lake County, he said.

"There are at least 10 victims who have had their identity stolen by Trevor Miller," Hyde said. "We are still trying to contact all the people involved."

Trevor Miller is charged with identity theft, burglary, unlawful use of a debit card and computer fraud, all felonies. Additional charges could be filed against him as the investigation continues.

Trevor Miller remains in Lake County jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond, said assistant state's attorney Steve Scheller. He must post 10 percent of the bond, or $2,500, to be released.

His parents have been released in lieu of a $50,000 personal recognizance bond, Scheller said.

All three are due back in court Aug. 11, he said.
