Wis. DNR will take texts on hunting violations
MADISON, Wis. -- State wildlife officials say they'll accept text messages reporting hunting and safety violations for the first time this year.
The Department of Natural Resources in April joined a national program that routes text messages to authorities. More than 27 states are part of the project.
Anyone with a cell phone can text information to tip411. The message must start with the letters TIPWDNR to make sure it's routed to Wisconsin DNR hotline operators rather than operators from other states.
The DNR will monitor the hotline from 7 a.m. through 10 p.m. seven days a week. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
The state's nine-day gun deer season opens Saturday.
