Potawatomi State Park opened to deer hunters
STURGEON BAY, Wis. -- A popular state park in scenic Door County is opened to deer hunters for the first time.
The inaugural hunt is an effort to reduce the deer herd and preserve the land and ecosystem at Potawatomi State Park, which has 1,200 acres of rolling terrain, steep slopes and limestone cliff on the shore of Sturgeon Bay.
Miriam Ben-Shalom of Milwaukee was one of many hunters to hit the woods this past weekend. Ben-Shalom says she was excited about hunting in the park because it's "untried land."
WLUK-TV says park rangers counted 40 deer being taken on opening day.
