Hanover Park man charged with assaulting intoxicated neighbor
Hanover Park police have arrested and charged Jose Manuel Avila-Ramirez, 22, with assaulting an intoxicated female neighbor living in his Hanover Park apartment complex.
At 11 a.m. Saturday, police talked to a woman who said she was assaulted by a man in her apartment in a complex on the 1900 block of Elm Court.
The woman said she attended a birthday party at 10 p.m. Friday at another apartment in that same complex, where Avila-Ramirez was also present, police said.
Police said she became intoxicated and fell asleep in a bedroom of the apartment. Several of the guests, including Avila-Ramirez, left the apartment at the end of the party after 3 a.m. Saturday.
Thirty minutes later, the victim's roommates where called to help one of the party guests whose vehicle was surrounded by water in the parking lot from heavy rainfall. Avila-Ramirez, who lives in the same apartment complex, returned to the apartment where the party was held and assaulted the victim, police said.
Police said when the victim's roommates returned to the apartment after helping the guest they found Avila-Ramirez in the bedroom, standing next to the bed where the woman was lying. They told police Avila-Ramirez pulled up his pants very quickly and left the apartment.
Avila-Ramirez was charged with two counts of felony criminal sexual assault.
Cook County Circuit Court Judge Kay Hanlon set bond for Avila-Ramirez at $40,000, of which he must post 10 percent to be released.
Avila-Ramirez's next court appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 17 in Rolling Meadows.
