Join run, walk to benefit brain cancer patients

One of the area's most popular rhyming fundraisers is coming up, so get ready to lace up your best athletic shoes.

The third annual Joggin for the Noggin 5K Run/Walk through downtown Palatine will take place Sunday, Aug. 8. It concludes with a post-race party dubbed Eggs, Kegs and Running Legs at Emmett's Ale House, 110 N. Brockway St.

The event will benefit families and patients affected by brain cancer by donating all proceeds to the Tug McGraw Foundation and the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Clinic at Duke University Medical Center.

The nonprofit organization Joggin for the Noggin Inc. was started by Palatine resident Jen McDevitt, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2003 - eight weeks after her only child, Jack, was born. She's completed several marathons since then, some while undergoing chemotherapy treatments.

The cost is $30 in advance and $35 on race day. Children under 10 can participate for free. Registration starts at 6 a.m. at the corner of Slade and Greeley streets.
