Northwest Community Hospital to open new clinics Monday
A new clinic with physical, occupational and speech therapy services will open Monday in Rolling Meadows, as will an occupational health clinic in Schaumburg, Northwest Community Hospital announced.
The 10,000-square-foot Rolling Meadows clinic will use half of the building in the Jewel Plaza on Kirchoff Road that has been vacant since the Sears Hardware store closed about five years ago, said Karen McCauley, director of physical medicine and rehabilitation for the hospital. The hospital is renting the entire building, but has not yet decided what to put in the other half, she said.
Many clients will need orthopedic or neurologic rehabilitation, said McCauley, and those recovering from strokes and joint replacements will appreciate the facility's less busy and active environment when compared with places like the Wellness Center on the hospital's main campus.
Specialty programs that will also use the building at 3300 Kirchoff Road include pelvic floor rehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation, Parkinson's disease exercise program and a low vision program.
A Pediatric Developmental Follow-up Clinic will be there until it moves to the main campus in Arlington Heights next spring.
The Rolling Meadows clinic will combine in a larger, better-designed space services that previously were offered in Arlington Heights and Palatine clinics that are closing, she said, and will employ the staff from those facilities. The clinics were at 901 Kirchoff Road in Arlington Heights and 500 N. Hicks Road in Palatine.
Hospital staff plans to have community open houses in the fall after the exterior of the building is remodeled, said McCauley.
"The interior is bright and cheery and clean, not at all what you would expect from a former hardware store," she said.
The clinic for occupational health will be in the existing Northwest Community Hospital medical office building at 455 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg. This site, which will work with employers, will include some new services the hospital has not provided before.
One thing the staff can do is analyze whether employees can physically do certain jobs and give tips on how to do them without injury. Testing will be done, and some rehabilitation, although most of the latter will be at other sites.
Eight staff physical therapists are cross training to provide these services, she said.
The hospital will continue to operate the Wellness Center on the main campus in Arlington Heights and the Fitness Center in Buffalo Grove.
Hours at the Rolling Meadows clinic will be 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday; and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Appointments can be made by calling (847) 618-3880.
Hours at the Schaumburg location are flexible and by appointment only. The general availability will be 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Call (847) 618-3855 to schedule an appointment.
