Rabid bat captured in Naperville

A live bat trapped in Naperville has been confirmed to have rabies, officials from the Will County Health Department announced.

This is the fourth case of wildlife rabies found in 2010, officials said, but the second bat confirmed to have rabies found in Naperville this month.

The bat was found outside a home on Grommon Road July 26, officials said in a news release.

Will County Animal Control transported the bat via courier to the Illinois Department of Public Health laboratory complex Tuesday, where rabies was confirmed.

Two adults and four children live at the property where the bat was found on Grommon Road.

However, no human exposures were identified and no pets lived on the property, officials said.

On July 13, A bat was found on the front porch of a home on Malvina Court and confirmed later to have rabies, officials said in the same release.

Three people and two dogs live at the Malvina Court address, but no exposures were identified.
