S. Elgin motorcyclist killed in collision with car

A 72-year-old South Elgin man is dead after driving into a car that was turning into a private driveway on Route 38 in DeKalb County, officials said.

Trevor A. Bauman, of the first block of Concord Avenue, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Route 38 near Chase Road about 9 a.m. Wednesday when he came upon a line of vehicles stopped in front of him, DeKalb County sheriff officials said.

Bauman, for some reason, did not wait in the line of cars and, instead, opted to enter the left lane of the roadway. After passing a couple of cars, the black Hyundai turning into a private driveway pulled out in front of the bike, officials said.

Bauman slammed into the side of the vehicle and was thrown from the bike, officials said.

It's unclear if Bauman entered the left lane to avoid crashing into the cars in front of him, or intended to pass the cars in effort to get to a turning lane at Chase Road, officials said.

Bauman was taken to Kishwaukee Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:44 a.m., officials said.

There have been no charges filed against the driver.
