Deficit worries should be secondary
It is extremely upsetting that those elected to represent the people have no regard for the people. There are thousands upon thousands of people who will have no money to put food on the table, to feed their children, to keep a roof over their heads. Yet Congress has chosen to reject providing for them by not extending several expired tax provisions and unemployment benefits due to concerns about the federal deficit.
How ridiculous is that? The time is now to spend. When people are back on their feet, contributing to a healthy economy - that is the time to worry about the deficit. Because that is the time we, as a country, will be healthy enough to pay it down.
I have a suggestion. Why not cut each and every one of our senators' and representatives' salaries in half. And eliminate all perks. Give that to those in need. And let us see how they feel about it.
