Route 120 corridor:The Lake County Regional Planning Commission will host a hearing at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, to consider amendments to the county's land use map regarding the Central Lake Thruway, a mile-wide Route 120 corridor and proposed bypass, from Route 41 to McHenry County. Other changes to be considered for the county's land use plan reflect current development, forest preserve district acquisitions and future land use for the Central Range/Heartland Agreement in the Grayslake area. The hearing will be held at the Lake County Central Permit Facility, Conference Room A, 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville. Informational open houses will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 11 and from 2 to 4 p.m. preceding the hearing on Aug. 17 at the permit facility.Text4baby:The Lake County Health Department now offers a free text message service that provides health messages on the cell phones of new and expectant moms. Text4baby is available to all new or expectant moms, not just health department clients. Women can sign up by texting BABY (or BEBE in Spanish) to 511411. Once enrolled, women will receive messages each week during pregnancy and throughout the baby's first year, timed to their due date or baby's birth date. Topics include birth defects prevention, immunization, nutrition, seasonal influenza, mental health, oral health and safe sleep. The service can also connect women to prenatal and infant care services and other resources. Women will not receive any ads. Visit text4baby.org.Discounted physicals:The Gurnee, Buffalo Grove and Round Lake Beach Advocate Condell Immediate Care Centers are offering discounted student physical and sports examinations with the donation of school supplies. The exams are performed by physicians. Students can receive school or sports physicals for $25 if they donate the supplies. The items will be given to underprivileged students across Lake County. The events take place at the Round Lake Beach Center, 2 E. Rollins Road, Round Lake Beach, on Aug. 8 from 8 a.m. to noon; the Gurnee Immediate Care Center, 6440 Grand Ave., Gurnee, on Aug. 13 from 4 to 8 p.m.; and the Buffalo Grove Immediate Care Center, 150 Half Day Road, Buffalo Grove, on Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Suggested items for donation include crayons, glue sticks, notebooks, calculators, pencils, pens, glue, erasers, rulers and pocket folders. Insurance will not be billed for the physical. Vaccinations are an additional cost and can be billed through insurance.
