Kane Countybull; A woman reported being defrauded of an $800 deposit she put down for a barn-painting job. She gave the painter the deposit May 12, and as of July 6, he had not painted the barn, nor returned her money as she requested, police said. The barn is in the 36W900 block of Crane Road, St. Charles Township.bull; A Garmin GPS device was stolen out of an unlocked vehicle between 10 p.m. July 2 and 8 a.m. July 3 in the 38W500 block of Red Bay Court, St. Charles, police said.bull; A pink Garmin GPS was stolen out of an unlocked vehicle in the 7N500 block of Falcons Trail in St. Charles Township between 5 p.m. June 28 and noon July 5, police said. Its cord and mounting bracket were also taken. The owner told deputies she later found the unit being sold on eBay out of a St. Charles address.bull; Martin B. Garcia, 23, of the 900 block of Mesa Drive in Elgin, was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, after deputies searched his home and person at 7:55 a.m. July 1, according to a police report. Gabriela Gonzalez-Ramirez, 24, of the same address, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Deputies serving a search warrant reported finding 7.7 ounces of cocaine, a digital scale with cocaine powder on it, a bottle of a sugar supplement commonly used to cut cocaine, another digital scale, two glass pipes, several cutoff tops from zippered plastic sandwich bags bearing cocaine residue, and a plastic sandwich bag with cocaine residue in the house. Corrections officers searching Garcia on intake at the Kane County jail found 5.3 grams of cocaine hidden in one of his shoes.bull; A man's Social Security number was stolen and used to obtain his income tax refund sometime between April 15 and June 28, police said. The man, who lives in the 6N200 block of River Drive, St. Charles Township, found out his refund had been sent to an address in Rhode Island after he called the IRS June 28 inquiring about the status of his refund.
