Firefighters battle blaze at Lake Villa townhouse

Lake Villa firefighters responded to a fire at a townhouse Thursday evening that was called in after a neighbor smelled smoke, officials said.

No one was home at the time of the fire at 227 Berkshire Drive, and no one was injured, officials said.

Neighbor Sean Doyle, 14, smelled smoke, ran over to the house and started banging on the door.

"He was in the garage and he smelled something smokey so he ran over and banged on the door about 20 times to make sure no one was inside," said Sean's father, Ray Doyle.

Firefighters were on the scene making sure the fire didn't rekindle late Thursday. Further information was not available late Thursday.
